A Hindu celebration designed to cleanse the previous year’s negative energy and prepare for a positive year ahead, Nyepi – New Year’s Day – sees the island of Bali at its most serene, with traffic silenced and many taking part in fasting, alongside abstention from work and forms of entertainment.

Piodalan or Odalan is a traditional village celebration observed throughout Bali, marking the anniversary of the consecration of a mrajan (family temple) or a palinggih (sacred shrine). During Odalan, public temples are adorned with vibrant fabrics and coconut-based decorations, including penjor, alongside an array of artistic offerings.

Galungan - Kuningan
During Galungan and Kuningan in Bali, a 10-day celebration takes place every 210 days according to the Hindu Saka Calendar. It is believed that during this period, all gods, including Ida Sang Hyang Widi, descend to earth to partake in the festivities.
