Four sides of China

China is a vast, multifaceted country, layered with history and resonant with myth. Its landscapes, cultural and spiritual riches are more complex and varied than could ever be appreciated in a lifetime, let alone a single visit. Across four destinations – from the calm centre of Beijing to the ancient mountain town of Lijiang – Aman offers an intimate introduction to the diverse geography, culture and character of this remarkable nation.

Amanfayun, Hangzhou, China
Just northwest of Beijing, an elegant cluster of heritage dwellings comprise the tranquil retreat of Aman Summer Palace. From this peaceful pavilion complex, a hidden gateway gives Aman guests privileged access to the Summer Palace grounds. Other cultural treasures, including the Forbidden City, the Great Wall and the Temple of Heaven are all within easy reach. Spiritual rewards are reaped at Amanfayun, near ancient Hangzhou, a gateway to the romanticism of Old China, where travellers can embark on a private pilgrimage of seven beautiful Buddhist temples, or discover one of the most prized teas in China.
Amandayan, Lijiang, China
In China’s far southwest, at the heart of Unesco-listed Lijiang Old Town, Amandayan is a launch point into the living history of the Nakhi people of Yunnan. The Qing-dynasty Wenchang Palace sits at the heart of the cobbled city and, just beyond, the wildlife-rich Lashi Lake wetlands and the grand Zhiyun Temple reward explorers with eye-opening sights, set against the white-ridged horizon and the peaks of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Close to the electric bustle of downtown Shanghai, but shielded from the urban hum by its quiet camphor-forest setting, Amanyangyun inspires deeper cultural immersion through its dedicated arts centre, Nanshufang, named after the royal reading pavilion in the Forbidden City.

East to West by air

Take to the skies on an Aman Private Jet Journey, cross continents and hemispheres, and discover the secrets of seven countries, journeying from Kyoto to the Peloponnese over the course of 17 days. Encompassing paradise islands, heritage sites, private beaches and international urban icons, this intimate expedition combines every type of travel in a single, one-of-a-kind airborne adventure. Begins 19 April 2020.

Amanpulo, Philippines - Private Island
It begins in a secret garden, with three days at the enchanting new Aman Kyoto – a contemporary interpretation of the traditional Japanese ryokan inn, set in a 40-acre green enclave at the foot of sacred Mount Daimonji. After exploring some of the 17 World Heritage sites of Japan’s ancient capital, fly on to the Philippines and the idyllic shores of the private Pamalican Island, where Amanpulo’s elegant jungle and beach casitas await.
Amandari, Ubud, Bali
Following three days on Amanpulo’s icing-sugar sands, the scene shifts to a verdant hilltop outside Ubud, the cultural heart of Bali. Spend three days at Amandari discovering the natural wonders of the Ayung Valley, including a special dinner at Ubud’s Agung Rai Museum of Art, before setting off for Sri Lanka, and the historic environs of Galle Fort. After a night at Amangalla in the Unesco-protected colonial-era fortress, the journey continues to Dubai, where Aman travellers can explore the Emirates from the sky with a helicopter excursion to Abu Dhabi.
Amanruya, Bodrum, Turkey
From the urban immensity of Dubai to the serenity of Turkey’s Aegean coast and the sun-drenched setting of the Bodrum peninsula…take in the rejuvenating Mediterranean air, ancient Ottoman ruins and enchanting rural villages with a stay at Amanruya, then travel on to the journey’s end on Amanzoe’s herb-scented hilltop. Greece’s Peloponnese peninsula provides the setting for the grand finale, offering the opportunity to visit the car-free island of Hydra, and to enjoy a farewell dinner at the resort, with cocktails to toast the end of this one-of-a-kind expedition.

The essence of Indochina

Unlock the mysteries of South-East Asia by combining three iconic Aman addresses on a journey taking in Laos, Cambodia and Thailand. From the sacred city of Luang Prabang to the beachside tranquillity of Phuket via the ancient wonder of Angkor, this enlightening itinerary never fails to enrich mind, body and soul.

Luang Prabang, Laos - Amantaka
The Unesco-protected city of Luang Prabang is the calm spiritual centre of Laos, where each day unfolds to the rhythm of Buddhist ritual – beginning with the takbat alms giving at dawn. Every morning, processions of monks pass the gates of Amantaka to collect offerings of rice from Aman guests. Encircled by tranquil gardens, a stroll away from the city’s countless temples and historic houses, the French-colonial sanctuary offers solace in the spa, adventure in the jungle, and inspiration afloat on the waters of the Mekong.
Amansara, Cambodia - Angkor Temple Complex
At the threshold of Angkor, Amansara provides unrivalled access to the ancient temple complex, as well as introducing guests to Cambodian therapies, relaxed yet refined dining experiences, and memorable jungle excursions. Cycle to crowd-free ruins, meditate in an ancient forest, and cruise to the floating villages of Tonlé Sap Lake. At Aman’s traditional Khmer Village House, guests can dine at dawn or dusk beside the 10th-century royal bathing pool of Srah Srang.
Amanpuri, Phuket, Thailand
Let Amanpuri speak to the senses through gastronomy, nature, and wellbeing. Here on a secluded stretch of sand by the Andaman Sea, Aman’s original retreat has been refreshed and enhanced with a Holistic Wellness Centre, providing guests with medically supported wellbeing programmes tailored to their personal health and inner harmony. On the shore, the new Eco-Beach Centre introduces younger guests to the natural splendour of Phuket and the Beach-Hut bar is tended to by talented mixologists.
