Journey across Indonesia

Journey across Indonesia

The world’s fourth most populous country, the Indonesian archipelago is a microcosm of its Southeast Asian and Oceanic neighbours. Encapsulating a kaleidoscope of cultures across 17,000 islands, the country’s varied landscapes range from spectacular beaches to deep jungle, while its arts, customs, cuisines and traditions offer the very best of the surrounding regions, rolled into one.

Plan your journey

Seeded through this floating world, Aman’s five properties in Indonesia each provide distinct perspectives on the island, inviting multi-stop journeys in one of Earth's most diverse destinations.

The journey begins in Java

Amanjiwo, Indonesia - Property, drone shot Amanjiwo

A peaceful retreat in the shadows of Borobudur

An island of many contrasts – Java's rolling countryside dotted with ancient treasures and its urban centre, Jakarta, the most modern and dynamic of cities. On arrival in Indonesia’s capital, the spiritual retreat of Amanjiwo can be reached by way of a short 60-minute flight to Yogyakarta or via the regal Kereta Api Wisata train. A seven-hour journey through spectacular scenery, the resort's resident anthropologist shares tales of Javanese history and mythology along the way.

Arriving at Amanjiwo rested and restored, cultural discovery awaits in the shadows of monuments and mountains. Named ‘Peaceful Soul’ for the serenity of its setting in Central Java’s cultural heartland, the resort overlooks the 8th century Unesco Heritage Site of Borobudur, the world’s largest Buddhist temple. With the site fully reopen yet still void of crowds, the opportunity to experience this wonder in its purest form awaits, with the resort offering privileged access and exclusive private tours at dawn.

THREE BALINESE DESTINATIONS

Depart Java to Bali, an island of verdant rice-terraces and legendary beaches that has long-served as a hide-out for spiritual salvation. Aman has three sanctuaries on the aptly named Island of the Gods, all offering a uniquely transformative experience – whether seeking coastal relaxation, a family adventure or artistic inspiration.

From Bali to MOYO island

amanwana, moyo island

An idyllic island paradise east of Bali, Aman’s fifth property in Indonesia is accessible via short, scenic flight from Bali to Sumbawa followed by a boat trip across the shimmering Flores Sea. Offering full board in just 17 luxury guest tents, the wilderness hideaway of Amanwana provides unparalleled access to some of the best diving and snorkelling in the world. Untouched by tourists for over two years, the surrounding reefs now thrive with an abundance of underwater life waiting to be discovered.

Jungle treks provide the chance to discover waterfalls and wildlife inland while the camp’s coastal cruisers host adventurous multi-day excursions to Rinca and Komodo Islands. For a once-in-a-lifetime experience, venture to Saleh Bay and swim with whale sharks, learning more about these remarkable mammals from an international conservation expert.

Complete the Indonesian odyssey

End the Indonesian odyssey onboard via Aman's flagship yacht, Amandira. Explore the realm of the Komodo dragons, the storied Spice Islands, and the underwater kingdoms of Raja Ampat and the Flores Sea.

Plan your expedition

Climb volcanoes, dive with mantas, and bask in rose-hued sunsets from the decks of Aman’s custom-made expedition vessel. With three spacious king-bed cabins and two bunk-bed cabins, Amandira can accommodate up to ten guests accompanied by a crew of 14 including two private chefs, an expert dive master, and a highly trained spa therapist.

“Island hopping across Indonesia is not just a geographic journey, but the crossing of a cultural and spiritual bridge.”
