Dining room

Furnished with period chairs and tables, crisp white linen and antique silverware, the high-ceilinged Dining Room is open for breakfast and all-day dining. Soaring fin de siècle ceilings, overhead fans and chandeliers create an exquisite setting for authentic Sri Lankan and international fare. The Dining Room offers simple Brasserie style cuisine incorporating local produce and flavours.

Veranda

Running the length of the house along Church Street, the Veranda is open throughout the day. Facing the tree-lined street, this is an ideal spot for a traditional hopper breakfast while watching Galle Fort awaken. It is equally suited to a light lunch escaping the midday heat or a candlelit dinner.

Great Hall

The magnificent Great Hall, or Zaal, as it was known in Dutch times is our Lounge, Living Room and Bar all rolled into one. Open from morning for the early birds and breakfast and all day for cocktails, fresh juices, or hot and cold beverages as well as afternoon cream tea and late into the evening for night owls, Zaal has live music on most evenings.

Garden Terrace and Pool Courtyard

Resting alongside the resort’s serene swimming pool, in the shade of mature flamboyant trees, the Pool Terrace offers breakfast and light lunches with verdant views, far removed from the bustle beyond the 200-year-old garden’s walls. Spot birds as they flit through the treetops, savour a delicious traditional hopper or continental breakfast, then plan your day over a perfect cup of coffee or Ayurvedic tea. Private candle-lit dinners may also be arranged for special occasions and availability, please discuss with your Butler.

Sunset balcony

Situated on the top floor of the main house with panoramic westerly views, the Sunset Balcony is drenched in sunlight in the late afternoon. This wonderful vantage point with views over the rooftops of the Fort and out to sea, is the ideal setting for a peaceful gin ‘n tonic, cocktail, or glass of wine to toast the end of the day. Rattan furniture, potted palms, and large windows create the dreamy ambience of a colonial conservatory. By arrangement with your Butler and subject to seating availability, we can serve afternoon cream tea, a cocktail, or a beverage as you wish.

Afternoon tea

The finest Ceylon tea is accompanied by homemade scones, clotted cream baked in our kitchen and homemade strawberry jam using fruit from the highlands of Nuwara Eliya, served alongside other savories. Enjoy it in The Library, Zaal, Verandah, Pool Courtyard, Sunset Balcony, or your room.

Traditional meals

The traditional “Rice and Curry” has been served each evening in the Dining Room and the Verandah for over 150 years in one guise or another. The menu changes every night and features our Sri Lankan specialities.

Elevate your experience with our exclusive private dining options. Whether it's a romantic moonlight dinner for two at the pool courtyard with a private table or an enchanting cultural troupe performance, or a serene breakfast by the poolside under the shade of the thambili trees, we are here to make it special. We offer private dining in various locations around our grounds and can also arrange unique dining experiences at select locations outside the property.

Private Island Traditional Roti Dinner and Cultural Show

In a romantic ambalama, literally an island in a sea of rice paddies, savor a traditional Sri Lankan roti dinner made beneath the stars by your personal chef and served by candlelight and flaming torches. The experience begins late afternoon, and as the sunset paints the sky a myriad of pinks, you can enjoy a cultural show unique to the southern province.
