Amankora Gangtey

Resting in the serene Phobjikha Valley, Gangtey Lodge offers an immersive rural experience with scenic views of the valley floor and the 16th-century Gangtey Goemba monastery. Its eight suites are identical to those of Thimphu Lodge, featuring king-size beds, wood-burning stoves and terrazzo bathrooms, with views across the valley. Surrounded by farmlands, the lodge provides direct access to hiking and biking trails.

Traditional Hot Stone Bath

Above the Phobjikha Valley, a wooden hut houses Amankora’s hot stone bath. Soak in waters rich in minerals released by heated river stones and healing khempa herbs.

Yoga Classes 

Enjoy a complimentary guided morning yoga session, suitable for all ability levels. The session includes guided breathing and a series of asanas (yoga poses).

Kitchen Garden Tour

Gangtey’s gardener leads an informal tour showcasing greens, herbs and spices. During harvest, gather potatoes, and allow the chef to prepare a dish of choice.

Gangtey Valley is rich in culture and customs, its origins shrouded in myths and legends. Find spiritual enrichment by delving into ancient traditions which are an integral part of the community, including a visit to the local school and offering a meal to monks at the Gangtey Geonpa Monastery.

Experience a spiritual cleansing ritual led by a local monk, where selected herbs are burned in a fumigation stupa to dispel negative energy and banish bad spirits.

An Amankora family member will accompany you to the local shops where you purchase ingredients before offering a meal to one of 130 monks in this nearby monastery.

Visit the Community School

Over 100 children attend the local school in Phobjika, some walking from distant mountains. A visit allows observation of the education system, and invites interaction with the students.
