Allow your heart to be captivated by this enchanted island and hold a romantic, tropical wedding at Amangalla. The historic resort – the oldest in Sri Lanka – in the Dutch fort of Galle is steeped in old-world charm and brimming with natural romance
Exuding an air of grandeur married with traditions of days gone by, Amangalla lies at the heart of the 17th century fort in Galle, on the South coast of Sri Lanka. The resort is the ideal base form which to explore the surrounding temples, countryside, rainforests and villages.
Dine alfresco beneath the tambili trees in the Palm Garden, or in the grand Dining Room and Zaal. Beautifully-presented curry and rice is a speciality, served in antique bowls. Guests can gather on the verandah for canapés and mango bellinis.
The elegant rooms at Amangalla overlook the Fort’s quaint lanes and ramparts, or the 200-year-old gardens. You will enjoy exclusive use of the resort for the wedding party with reservations of 23 rooms or more.
With six houses of worship living harmoniously together within the walls of the fort – three churches, two mosques and a Buddhist temple – Amangalla can cater for an array of weddings. Exchange your vows on a hilltop overlooking the Fort, or lead guests through verdant gardens for a unique, peaceful ceremony with live entertainment. Following the ceremony, the bride and groom light the traditional oil lamp, decorated with fragrant jasmine garlands.
Transport guests to the reception in a vintage car, or even a bullock cart, where upon arrival they can mingle on the verandah with canapés and champagne. Amangalla can provide wedding planners to arrange flowers, decorations and wedding cakes; as well as photography and musical entertainment. Options include a lively jazz band, traditional tabla group, drummers, calypso bands and DJs – or celebrate with dance performers and firework displays.
Enjoy a private dinner beneath the stars, with oil lanterns lighting up the Pool Courtyard, for two to 60 guests. Dinner can also be arranged in the spectacular surrounds of the Zaal and Dining Room, with soaring ceilings and twinkling chandeliers, polished teak floors and antique accents. Allow Amangalla's chef to create a bespoke wedding menu – with as many courses as you wish.
