Inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine takes a holistic approach to wellbeing, working on preventing illness by addressing every individual’s unique patterns of disharmony – the areas of imbalance that could lead to ill health. The concepts of yin and yang are intrinsic to TCM’s view of the body, and are intricately linked to the notion that the body’s life force, or Qi, runs through 12 meridians or energy pathways in the body.

The art of Tai Chi

Considered both a martial art and a moving meditation, Tai Chi developed in China over 800 years ago. The slow, rhythmic and graceful movements allow Qi to circulate around the body, bringing optimum health and calming the mind. Join a Tai Chi master for a private Tai Chi session in a tranquil courtyard or within the Summer Palace grounds

Healing Herbs

Experience the benefits of the Aman Summer Palace seasonal herbal poultice, created in collaboration with Tong Ren Tang, a former imperial medical dispensary that served the Qing dynasty for 188 years from 1669. Placed over the skin and accompanied by a soothing massage, it generates warmth in the internal organs, stimulating circulation and easing muscle tension.

The power of gemstones

Deeply soothing and regenerating, heated gemstones are used as an extension of the therapist’s hands as they glide over the body as part of a flowing massage, drawing out muscle tightness and rebalancing qi.

Singing Bowl Therapy

Surrounded by an aura of mystery, singing bowls from the Himalayas are known for their vibrational healing powers and meditative benefits. Resonating throughout the body, their stable, high frequency vibrations calm the body and mind.
