The Aman Story

Drawing its name from the Sanskrit-derived word for ‘peace’, Aman has enjoyed an organic evolution for over three decades to become one of the world’s most intuitive and pioneering resort, hotel and residence brands. Responding to those seeking the peace, seclusion and appreciation of beauty that are intrinsic parts of the Aman lifestyle, the brand’s journey has been inspired by a singular, authentic and original intent: To provide a level of service and a home-away-from-home experience that is peerless in every way.

Meticulously designed to frame their natural and urban settings, Aman destinations are renowned for their space and privacy. Each welcomes guests as if to the home of a close friend, instilling a sense of peace and belonging amid some of the world’s most diverse landscapes. It is an approach that has changed little since the first ‘place of peace’, Amanpuri, was founded on Phuket’s west coast in 1988, becoming the blueprint for the Aman way of life.

Word spread, and the custodians of landmark sites approached Aman to act as guardians, recognising the determination to fervently preserve these special places. Since then, the role of Aman destinations as sanctuaries, breathing spaces and gateways to transformative experiences outside the constraints of everyday life has become a brand hallmark.

Aman currently embraces 34 hotels, resorts and residence developments in 20 countries, 15 of which are located close to or within Unesco-protected sites. Each reflects the unique cultural heritage of its destination through sensitive design, inspired cuisine and personalised wellness and experiential journeys, with every detail curated for it alone.

It is the Aman soul - gentle, welcoming and a pure manifestation of the brand’s name - that instantly identifies each as an Aman, that inspires the intuitive service for which the brand is renowned, and from which flows every other aspect of the Aman experience. True to the brand’s pioneering spirit, a further nine projects have been announced to date as part of a robust future pipeline.

In recent years, Aman has also grown to offer its coveted lifestyle beyond the parameters of its havens. Aman Skincare and Sva supplements harness powerful natural ingredients to provide balance and optimal wellbeing within and without, while Aman Fine Fragrance products bring the spirit of Aman into the comfort of home.

This sentiment was echoed in 2021, with the arrival of a new retail collection, The Essentials by Aman, comprising timeless ready-to-wear pieces for every guest. With new horizons, come new opportunities, and Aman will continue to expand its offering in the coming years, staying true to its guiding principle of instilling peace in those it touches.
