Amangani

With vast swathes of wilderness on the doorstep and two national parks nearby, Jackson Hole is ideally placed for summertime outdoor adventures. Bathed in warm sunshine by day, the valley becomes a hiker’s paradise, with trails winding through mountain, field and forest, while the Snake River beckons for fly fishing and rafting.

Tales of adventure

This spring, Amangani welcomes a man who understands the pleasures of time outdoors more than most. Born in Jackson, Sam Lightner, Jr is one of the world's most renowned rock climbers, who has conquered and pioneered some of the most challenging routes around the world. Over four Fridays from 7 May to 11 June 2021, the author and adventurer calls in on Amangani to share stories of his travels, giving Amangani guests an insight into the dramas and delights of a life lived in the open air.

Guided wildlife tours

Surrounded by pristine wilderness, Amangani is the perfect base from which to enjoy wildlife safaris. Take to the flatlands, the wetlands, the valleys and the forests with your own personal guide in a luxury SUV and enjoy nature up close and personal. Sightings of moose, bears, coyotes, elk and deer – even wolves and mountain lions – are possible.

Adventures on land

Saddle up and take to the trails for a scenic horseback ride along East Gros Ventre Butte, or mountain bike through Bridger-Teton National Forest. Mountain climbers are rewarded with numerous summits to conquer nearby; and hikers can explore Grand Teton’s spectacular forests via 320km of trails.

Adventures by water

The Snake River offers some of the finest fly fishing in North America, with a lively mix of brown and native cutthroat trout. A scenic drift down the river to an idyllic picnic site is a more relaxed option. Thrill seekers can feel the rush of white-water rafting south of Jackson, whereas canoeing, kayaking and other water sports are available on Jackson Lake.

The Tetons by balloon

Hot-air ballooning above the valley makes for a awe-inducing beginning to the day. Soaring over 1,000 feet above the valley floor in total silence, enjoy spellbinding 360º views of the Gros Ventre, Teton, Absaroka and Snake River Ranges.

Photography workshops

The photogenic landscape may have done half the work already, but to do proper justice to the extraordinary natural beauty of the setting, it pays to upgrade your camera skills. Learn the importance of light, composition, angle, and texture with photographer and Jackson gallerist David Brookover. Workshops are held throughout the summer.
